Smoke effect in Counter-Strike 2

Valve is updating its classic tactical shooting game in Counter-Strike 2 by highlighting how smokes work and smoke grenades in the engine.

Valve’s announcement of Counter Strike 2 highlighted the improvements made to the engine in the area of smoke grenades.

Smokes in Counter-Strike 2 are now more sensitive to the surrounding environment. They can react differently depending on whether they’re near a light source, or if there’s a gunshot, grenade, etc.

Smokes in CS:GO were more of an opaque area of the players’ view, which was only activated when a smoke grenade is released. Smokes in Counter-Strike 2 are dynamic because they’re now coded to be three-dimensional.

What is the smoke effect in Counter-Strike 2?

Valve highlighted some of the major changes to smokes in one of their announcement video. In the new version, smokes will fill up the entire map. All players will see the same amount of smoke.

Players could previously create smokes that blocked vision for other players and allowed them to only see through a portion of the smoke. Smokes in previous versions of Counter-Strike were also inconsistent with the amount they expanded, and the view it blocked from the same location.
